Hospital furniture from Turkey covers one of two lists. The first list is medical devices: beds, stretchers, examination couches, treatment chairs. The second is the furniture a hotel or office would recognise: waiting seating, wardrobes, bedside cabinets, reception counters, desks and staff rooms. Rovers supplies the second list from Turkish partner factories, built to healthcare cleaning and fire specifications, and leaves the first list to certified medical-device makers and their approvals.
The device line
| Rovers supplies (non-medical furniture) | By others (medical devices) |
|---|---|
| Waiting-area and beam seating, visitor chairs, tables, children’s corner | Hospital beds, electric or manual |
| Patient recliners for visitors and day rooms, where specified as furniture | Stretchers and transfer trolleys |
| Patient-room wardrobes, bedside cabinets without medical functions, overbed shelf, TV unit, curtain-track joinery | Examination couches, treatment and procedure chairs |
| Nurse-station, reception and pharmacy-counter joinery, storage walls | Medical carts and trolleys, cabinets with device functions |
| Consult-room desks, chairs, storage | Birthing beds, dental chairs, pressure-care mattresses |
| Staff rooms, lockers, on-call rooms, offices, cafeteria | Powered recliners with patient assist; any item with a patient-positioning or powered medical function |
Medical beds are tested to IEC 80601-2-52 and, in the EU, placed on the market under the Medical Device Regulation (EU) 2017/745. Those rules belong to the device maker. Where a project asks for one contract covering both lists, the device items are listed on the schedule with their maker and certificates, and Rovers coordinates sizes and positions only.
Cleanability
Healthcare furniture is cleaned often, with hospital disinfectants. UK guidance (HBN 00-09) asks that furniture and finishes in patient areas be easy to clean and disinfect. In the US, BIFMA’s HCF 8.1 guideline (now updated as G8.1-2026) sets out how to design furniture for cleaning. In practice that means:
| Detail | Specification |
|---|---|
| Upholstery | Vinyl or PU healthcare fabric rated for chlorine and alcohol disinfectants; welded or sealed seams |
| Seat to back | A clean-out gap so a cloth reaches every surface |
| Edges | Sealed board edges; no exposed particleboard |
| Tops | HPL or solid surface, with radiused or sealed joints |
| Feet and bases | Glides and bases that lift clear of the floor for mopping |
| Hardware | Smooth handles without dirt traps |
Bariatric and challenging-environment furniture
Bariatric seating needs wider frames and a higher rated load; the NHS framework buys it as its own lot, and BIFMA is developing a bariatric seating standard. Mental-health and “challenging environment” units buy anti-ligature, weighted and tamper-proof furniture as another lot. Rovers prices both only against a written specification with the load rating or the ligature requirements stated.
Fire standards
| Market | Upholstered seating and furniture |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom | BS 7176: hospitals usually medium hazard (Crib 5 plus EN 1021-1 and -2), some areas high hazard |
| European Union | EN 1021-1 and -2, plus national classes for public buildings |
| United States | IFC 805 for I-2 (hospital and nursing) occupancies without sprinklers: NFPA 260/261 and TB 133 heat-release tests |
| Saudi Arabia | SBC 801 Section 805, which follows the IFC |
Test reports come from the factory that makes each item and are attached to the line they cover.
How a hospital package runs
- The medical planner’s or architect’s room data sheets and furniture layouts are read, and each item is placed on the device or non-device list.
- Non-device lines are priced per room type: patient room, consult room, waiting area, nurse station, staff room.
- Shop drawings and fabric samples are approved, including disinfectant-resistance data for each fabric.
- A sample patient room and a waiting-area set are built and checked by the infection-control and facilities teams.
- Production, inspection before packing, then delivery by floor and department. Outside the US, Rovers installs and hands over each department. In the US, Rovers manufactures and delivers, and the contractor’s installer fits the rooms.
What to send us
Send the furniture layouts and room data sheets, or the FF&E schedule, with the device items marked, the city and the handover date per phase. Clinics and day centres can send a floor plan and the number of rooms per type.
